Noted Punjabi singer Shubhdeep Singh alias Sidhu Moosewala’s mother Charan Kaur Sidhu , who was contesting the panchayat elections from Moosa village in Mansa district defeated her rival candidate by a margin of 600 votes.

She was the fray for the post of sarpanch post and was backed by the ruling Congress government.

The voting began at 8 am and concluded at 4 PM on Sunday. A total number of 17,268 polling booths were set up in Punjab. The results of the Punjab Panchayat elections were announced by the the evening. Around 8000 candidates are contesting for the post of sarpanchas and panches, across the state.
