Punjab update: Sugarcane farmer leaders' meeting with a government expert panel remained inconclusive on Monday, as no agreement could be reached on the cost of production for cane. The highway and rail blockade in Jalandhar will continue for now. However, as per the latest update, the protesters have postponed their call for Punjab bandh. Farmers said they would meet Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh in Chandigarh at 3 pm on August 24 to determine the final SAP. Farmers' protest: 19 trains cancelled in Punjab For the last three days, women are extending their support by supplying cooked food to the protesters. On the other hand, protesting farmers of Doaba and Majha cane belts are in no mood to relent. Comparing the disparity in per quintal price, Punjab farmers are demanding a hike of Rs 90 for sugarcane. Currently, they are getting per quintal price of Rs 310, which is even lesser than that in Haryana (Rs 358).
