Punjab is a state of farmers and we are against this bill: Sukhbir Badal
Shiromani Akali Dal President Sukhbir Singh Badal on Thursday opposed the farmers' ordinance bills in Lok Sabha.
Farmers (Empowerment and Protection) Agreement on Price Assurance and Farm Services Bill, 2020, and Farmers' Produce Trade and Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation) Bill, 2020 were presented in Lok Sabha for consideration and passing.

While addressing the Lok Sabha, Sukhbir Singh Badal said that "Every bill which is for the nation, some part of the country likes the bill, some part of the country does not like the bill."
"The 3 farmers ordinance bills which are in the name of farmers and Punjab state is the heart of farmers of India," he said.
He said that "We are against this bill. 20 lakh farmers are going to be affected. More than 30,000 Arhtiyas are going to be affected. More than 3 lakh Mandi labourers are going to be affected. More than 15-20 lakh Khet Mazdoor are going to be affected."
"Punjab is a state of farmers. There are several states that worked hard to promote tourism, some on the IT industry, but Punjab has worked hard to build up the farming infrastructure," Sukhbir Singh Badal said.
He said that "There were Congress leaders who said that Shiromani Akali Dal made U-turn." Adding, the SAD President said that Shiromani Akali Dal was not aware of the act and when it came to the Cabinet, our Union Minister Harsimrat Kaur Badal told the Cabinet about the doubts of the farmers. We don't need to prove it."
