Punjab Govt allows 2-hour window for bursting green crackers on Diwali, Gurpurab
Chandigarh, October 12: The Punjab government has announced a two-hour window for bursting green firecrackers across the state on Diwali and Gurpurab. Following a recommendation from the Punjab Pollution Control Board (PPCB), the orders would be implemented by the respective deputy commissioners and district police. On October 24 (Diwali), crackers are permitted between 8 p.m. and 10 p.m., while on November 8 (Gurpurab), crackers are permitted between 4 a.m. and 5 a.m. and 9 p.m. to 10 p.m. On December 25 (Christmas), the time limit for bursting crackers is 11.55 p.m. to 12.30 a.m., and on December 31 (New Year's Eve), the time limit is 11.55 p.m. to 12.30 a.m. Furthermore, the PPCB has decided to promote community celebrations of the festival, however, e-commerce sites are barred in Punjab from selling or delivering crackers. "Only green crackers permitted by the court are allowed in all districts of Punjab," senior PPCB officials stated. The order announced on Wednesday stated, "We will promote community cracker bursting." “Police and district administration to ensure compliance of time during the festivals and register cases against violators,” it added.
