Punjab Government-run Volvo buses to ply to Delhi Airport soon
Chandigarh, May 25: Punjab Government-run buses will soon start plying from Punjab to the Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport, Delhi. All depots have been asked to get ready Volvo buses for the purpose. Depot managers have been directed to inspect all Volvo buses and ensure they are fit for plying to the Delhi Airport. As of now, there is no government bus service to the Delhi Airport. After the AAP formed government in Punjab, a discussion was held on the issue with the officials concerned. Recently, a meeting of transport officials of Delhi and Punjab was held, where it was agreed upon to run eight shared buses. Also Read | Punjab makes Punjabi eligibility test a must for Group C, D posts The bus service to the Delhi Airport will start from 10 cities — Chandigarh, Ropar, Jalandhar, Hoshiarpur, Ludhiana, Amritsar, Pathankot, Moga, Muktsar and Nawanshahr, since most concentration of population from these areas is settled abroad. The timetable of the bus service will be made according to the flight schedule. The transport department has also issued directions to start preparing roaster for the same. Last month also, Punjab Transport Minister Laljit Singh Bhullar had stated that Punjab Government bus service to Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport, Delhi, would be resumed soon. He had stated that after a threadbare discussion between the CMs of both Punjab and Delhi governments, the issue was taken up during a Secretary-level meeting of the Transport Departments of both states.
