Weekend lockdown in Punjab? Though the Punjab government led by Captain Amarinder Singh has enforced several restrictions including night curfew amid the second wave of coronavirus the number of COVID-19 cases has been increasing. According to the information, the Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh will hold a review meeting with officials of the Health Department regarding the Covid situation in Punjab. Likewise, the Punjab government may announce a weekend lockdown in order to contain the spread of coronavirus. It may be recalled that the government has increased the testing at the district level to check the spread of COVID-19 but in spite of this, the number of cases has been increasing. It is pertinent to mention that the government Central government has expressed concern over the current situation of coronavirus in Punjab. The Union Health Ministry sent a letter to the Punjab government mentioning the flaws in the prevention of COVID-19 spread. Weekend lockdown in Punjab? According to the letter, the Central health teams that visited Punjab found that the contact tracing in Ludhiana and Patiala needed to be strengthened. Also, the teams reported that Mohali was facing a crisis due to a shortage of health staff. The central health team also reported that the bed occupancy rates in Mohali, Jalandhar, and Ludhiana hospitals were high for which the local health authority needed to take proper steps.
