Punjab government declares coronavirus as an 'epidemic'
The Government of Punjab on Tuesday declared the novel coronavirus (COVID 19) as an 'epidemic' disease under the Epidemic Diseased Act, 1897. Meanwhile, the Punjab government had constituted several groups and committees to deal with different aspects of containment of coronavirus in the state.
A group of State COVID-19 Management has been constituted that will review the situation arising out of coronavirus on a regular basis and would submit the report to the Chief Minister. The decision taken by the group will be reviewed by the Chief Minister every week.
Similarly, the Health Sector Response and Procurement Committee will assess and review all requirements of personnel, material, and infrastructure of the Health Departments required to contain coronavirus and ensure timely procurement.
Meanwhile, the Lockdown Implementation Committee will look after the arrangements related to security and enforcement of law and order in the State due to coronavirus. Likewise, the Media and Communication Committee will make all the necessary arrangements for preparing, compiling and disseminating information with regard to management and containment of coronavirus.

Agriculture and Food Committee will focus on the smooth harvesting and procurement of crops including wheat, potatoes, knows and vegetables. Relief for the Migrant Workers Committee will supervise all the aspects of relief to unemployed workers due to curfew/lockdown in the state. Good Transport Committee will ensure the movement of all goods transport vehicles moving and entering out of the state of Punjab.
