Punjab Electricity Crisis: In a major setback to the Punjab government, Unit number 4 of Guru Gobind Singh Super Thermal Plant Ropar has been shut down.
The efforts being made by the Punjab government to ease the power supply have suffered a major setback. The shut down of unit number 4 of Guru Gobind Singh Super Thermal Plant Ropar will lead to a reduction of 210 MW.

As of now, the peak demand in the state had touched a whopping 14600 MW while the power being generated was around 13500 MW.

This means powercom is struggling with a shortfall of 2,000 MW.
It is pertinent to mention that there have been outages in Ropar thermal plant (210MW) and Talwandi Sabo thermal plant (990 MW). Punjab had already closed the Bathinda thermal plant and hence it was largely dependent on private plants.
Meanwhile, PSPCL is also dependent on rains as Bhakra Beas Management Board (BBMB) has also been facing water shortages for hydel power generation.
Amid the electricity crisis, Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh has ordered that all government offices would function from 8 am to 2 pm from July 2 onwards.
Even as the government has ordered that Air Conditioners would not be used in the offices during this period.
