Punjab elections 2022: Sale of liquor to remain banned from Feb 18 to 20
Ahead of Punjab Assembly elections 2022, the office of Chief Electoral Officer on Saturday notified that the sale of liquor would be banned in the state from February 18 to 20. Punjab's CEO issued a notification regarding the prohibition on the sale of liquor in Punjab and adjoining states of Jammu and Kashmir, Haryana, Rajasthan, Himachal Pradesh, and Chandigarh besides the declaration of dry days. In this regard, you are requested to notify the 'DRY DAY on the dates from 06.00 PM on 18.02.2022 to till the conclusion of poll on 20.02.2022 in the State of Punjab and the action will be taken in case of re-poll if any," the notification reads. "The counting of the votes will be held on 10.03.2022, so the DRY DAY shall also be imposed/declared," the notification added. After the Model Code of Conduct came into force in Punjab for Assembly elections 2022, various enforcement teams seized valuables worth Rs 319.29 crore in violation of poll ethics till February 3, 2022, the official said. Giving details in this regard, Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), Punjab, Dr S Karuna Raju, today, said that the surveillance teams have seized 27.86 lakh litres of liquor worth Rs 14.75 crore. Similarly, the enforcement wings have also recovered psychotropic substances amounting to Rs 275.59 crore besides confiscating unaccounted cash of Rs 19.19 crore, he added.
