Punjab elections 2022: Only two days left for filing nomination papers

Chandigarh, January 29: Chief Electoral Officer, Punjab, Dr S Karuna Raju on Saturday said no nomination papers for the Punjab Assembly elections 2022 would be filed on January 30 in view of holiday. Dr S Karuna Raju said as per the schedule announced to file nomination papers for the upcoming Punjab Assembly elections 2022, the process started with the issuance of a notification on January 25, 2022, which would remain continue till February 1. The CEO said being Sunday, January 30 would be a holiday. Therefore, nomination papers would not be presented to the returning officer concerned on that day. Also read | WHO: Covid cases may be plateauing at some places, but risk still persists On Saturday, Punjab Congress chief and party's candidate from Amritsar East Navjot Singh Sidhu filed his nomination for the state Assembly elections.  Sidhu is a sitting MLA from the seat. Shiromani Akali Dal has fielded former Punjab Minister Bikram Singh Majithia against him in Amritsar East. AAP CM candidate Bhagwant Mann also filed his nomination from Dhuri. Mann, currently an MP from Sangrur Lok Sabha seat, will now contest polls from the Dhuri constituency in Sangrur district.
