Punjab CM appears before Chandigarh District Court in connection with 2020 rioting case
Chandigarh, August 6: Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Saturday reached Chandigarh District Court. He was accompanied by his counsel Anmol Rattan Sidhu.
According to sources, Bhagwant Mann received a copy of chargesheet filed in the 2020 rioting case.
Notably, the Chandigarh Police have filed the chargesheet under sections 147 (rioting), 149 (every member of unlawful assembly guilty of the offence committed in prosecution of common object), 332 (voluntarily causing hurt to deter public servant from duty) and 353 (assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of duty) of the Indian Penal Code.

The case dates back to January 10, 2020, when the Chandigarh Police booked then Sangrur MP, now CM Punjab Bhagwant Mann and several other AAP MLAs on charges of rioting, assault, and obstructing police from performing their duties during a protest against a power tariff hike near the MLA hostel in Sector 4, Chandigarh.
Others named in the chargesheet are Baldev Singh, Baljinder Kaur, Meet Hayer, Manjit Singh Bilaspur, Narinder Shergill, Jai Krishan Singh Rouri and Saravjit Kaur Manuke.
