Exclusive! Smartphones for SC girls, others please excuse
Though Punjab Government is set to launch the scheme for distribution of smartphones to the youth on August 12, the general category students have to wait for now.
According to the information, the smartphones will be provided by the Lava company that would be distributed among 1,73,823 students of Class 12 under the Captain Smart Connect scheme.
As per the sources, the smartphones will only be distributed among the girl students of the Scheduled Caste (SCs). The Deputy Commissioners will be coordinating with the school principals to distribute the smartphones to the girls.
Earlier on Monday, the Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh had said that the State Government had fulfilled its promise to the people, and the youth in particular, by providing state-of-the-art smartphones.
However, the youth has to wait as the smartphones will only be given to the Class 12 girls of the SC community.

Captain Amarinder Singh also said that the Government has chosen the auspicious occasion of Janmashtami to launch the scheme. Coincidentally, 12th August is also the International Youth Day.
