Punjab cabinet gives nod to 600 free units per bill

Chandigarh: Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Wednesday said that the Cabinet has approved the decision to provide 300 units of free electricity to every household in the state. Also Read| Rana Kandowalia murder case: Gangster Lawrence Bishnoi sent to 5-day police remand Taking to Twitter, CM Mann said, "We had given a big guarantee to the people of Punjab that as soon as the government is formed, we will give 300 units of electricity free of cost. This decision of the government has been approved by the cabinet today." Adding, "Now, 600 units of electricity will be waived on every bill. We will fulfill all the promises made to the people of Punjab." The people will though have to pay the full bill if their usage exceeds 600 units in two months. However, those belonging to backward castes, scheduled castes, below-poverty-line households, and freedom fighters will be charged just for the usage over and above 600 units. The Punjab free electricity scheme will benefit 80 per cent of domestic category electricity consumers in the state. There are also around 21 lakh consumers from SC, BC, BPL families and freedom fighters, who are currently getting free electricity upto 200 units per month.
