Punjab: BSF files reply in HC in case of illegal mining near border area

Chandigarh, September 8: The Punjab and Haryana High Court on Thursday heard the matter of illegal mining near the border areas of Punjab. In Thursday's hearing, the BSF filed its reply in the High Court over the matter and stated that even army bunkers are being affected due to continuous illegal mining in the area. The BSF also stated that soil degradation is occurring due to illegal mining in Amritsar, and owing to this the army's bunkers may be washed away. The army also claimed that illegal mining could cause the river's flow to shift, causing the bunker to be damaged. Aside from that, illegal mining might lead to flooding. The Punjab administration has yet to respond to the claims of illegal mining.
