Punjab based Tajinderpal Toor qualifies for Tokyo Olympics; Kiren Rijiju congratulates him

With a 21.49 m Shot Put throw, Punjab-based Tajinderpal Toor has qualified for Tokyo Olympics 2020 after breaking his own National Record at Indian Grand Prix at NIS Patiala. Union Sports Minister Kiren Rijiju congratulated him and wrote: "I congratulate @Tajinder_Singh3 on his #Tokyo2020 qualification, with 21.49m in men’s shot put at the Indian Grand Prix 4. He broke his own national record of 20.92m and breached the qualification mark of 21.10m. Our athletes are working hard to bring the best results in the Olympics." Tajinderpal Singh Toor hails from the Khosa Pando village in the Moga district of Punjab. He was into cricket before switching full-time to shot put based on recommendations by his father. His uncle helped train him initially. His first international medal was at the Asian Athletics Championships in 2017, where he finished second with a throw of 19.77. He won Gold at the 2018 Asian Games with a total record throw of 20.75m. The throw also broke the national record at that time.
