Farmers protest: Statewide dharnas bring life to standstill
Punjab Bandh Today for 2 hours: Punjab is witnessing statewide protests over the agriculture laws passed by the Parliament during the monsoon session. 30 Kisan Unions have been opposing the farm laws and asking the central government to withdraw the laws for farmers' interest. The Kisan Mazdoor Sangharsh Committee is sitting on railway tracks in Amritsar to protest against the Farm laws. The farmers' agitation against the agriculture bills has been extended till October 15. Punjab Bandh today is called to show the solidarity to the Haryana farmers who were lathi-charged during the agitation. The Kisan Union leaders have condemned the brutal lathi-charge on protesting farmers in Haryana earlier this week and announced unconditional support to them. The farmers who were protesting against the ‘anti-farmer bills’ were lathi-charged in Sirsa where they were planning to gherao Haryana Cabinet minister Dushyant Chautala. In fact, the police had resorted to water cannons to disperse protesting farmers. The protest is being staged following the passing of the Farmers’ Produce Trade and Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation) Bill, 2020, the Farmers (Empowerment and Protection) Agreement on Price Assurance and Farm Services Bill, 2020, and Essential Commodities Act, in the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha, during the monsoon session of the Parliament. -PTC News
