Yellow alert issued for 17 Punjab districts amid dense fog and rain predictions

Punjab Weather update: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for 17 districts in Punjab, warning of dense fog and potential disruptions in visibility on Sunday morning. Additionally, two active western disturbances are expected to bring rainfall to the region over the next few days.

Dense fog is likely to envelop Gurdaspur, Amritsar, Tarn Taran, Kapurthala, Jalandhar, Ferozepur, Fazilka, Faridkot, Muktsar, Moga, Bathinda, Ludhiana, Barnala, Mansa, Sangrur, Patiala, and Malerkotla. Visibility in these areas could drop to as low as 50 metre, raising concerns about travel safety.


A cold wave alert has also been issued for Ferozepur, Fazilka, Faridkot, Muktsar, Moga, Bathinda, Barnala, and Mansa, where temperatures are forecasted to remain below normal levels.

Two western disturbances have been identified as influencing the weather in Punjab. The first disturbance, located near the Iran border, and the second, a trough stretching from Gujarat to the Punjab-Rajasthan border, are set to impact the state from January 21 onward. Rainfall is expected between January 21 and January 23. On  January 21, there is forecast of scattered showers in parts of Punjab. On January 22, there would be widespread rainfall across most regions and on January 23, there will be isolated rainfall in some areas.
