Who is Naraien Singh Chaurra ? prime accused in foiled assassination plot of Sukhbir Singh Badal
PTC News Desk: Former deputy chief minister of Punjab and Shiromani Akali Dal leader Sukhbir Singh Badal was under attack on Wednesday morning. A man inside the Golden Temple premises opened fire at Badal while he was undergoing religious penance as part of the punishments pronounced by Akal Takht. With the alertness of the police personnel present at the site, an assassination attempt was foiled and the accused was nabbed and arrested.
Several cops were deployed in the Golden Temple premises in civilian dress code for the security of Sukhbir Singh Badal. The accused has been identified as Naraien Singh Chaurra who is reportedly a former militant and accused in Burail jailbreak case.
Who is Naraien Singh Chaurra?
Naraien Singh Chaurra who opened fire at Sukhbir Singh Badal is reportedly prime accused in the in the Burail jailbreak case. According to the police officials, accused is a resident of Chaurra village in Dera Baba Nanak and has a strong criminal background.
In the sensational Burail jailbreak case of 2004, four inmates, including assassins of former Punjab Chief Minister Beant Singh, escaped after digging a 94-foot tunnel. Chaurra has been booked under several cases in Amritsar, Tarn Taran and Ropar districts.
According to the reports, Chaura had crossed over to Pakistan in 1984 and was an active participant in smuggling large consignments of weapons and explosives into Punjab.
Following the shootout, Punjab government and administration have been put under scruitiny. Several Akali leaders including Dr. Daljit Singh Cheema and Bikram Singh Majithia have slammed Punjab government over the law and order situation in the state. Dr. Cheema has also sought chief minister's resignation owing to the security breach.
He further asserted that Naraien Singh Chaurra is brother of Dera Baba Nanak Market Committee chairman Narinder Singh Chaurra.
