Weather update: Rain, thunderstorms likely in Punjab, Chandigarh for next 5 days; yellow alert in THESE districts
Weather update: The monsoon struck Punjab before July 1, yet the state has received less rain than normal during the month. This shortage has pushed Punjab into the red zone, with temperatures reaching around 40 degrees Celsius as the monsoon season begins. Despite light rain in Mohali and Chandigarh on Sunday night, the heat continues to rise across the state.
However, Punjab and Chandigarh are likely to witness light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning over the next 5 days, bringing relief to people.
According to the forecast, rain is expected in Pathankot, Gurdaspur, Amritsar, Hoshiarpur, and Nawanshahr. A yellow alert has been issued in various regions of Punjab for rain till July 31.
"Fairly widespread to widespread light to moderate rainfall accompanied with thunderstorm & lightning very likely over Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand and East Rajasthan; scattered to fairly widespread rainfall over Jammu-Kashmir-Ladakh-Gilgit-Baltistan-Muzaffarabad, Punjab, Haryana-Chandigarh-Delhi, Uttar Pradesh and West Rajasthan during next 5 days," the IMD stated.
Meanwhile, the weather department predicts light to moderate rainfall in Delhi during the next five days. It also stated that the national capital is anticipated to have intermittent heavy rainfall till July 31. According to the weather office, several regions of the national capital are expected to get significant rains on July 30 and 31.
