Weather update: Rain lashes parts of Punjab, Chandigarh; yellow alert issued
Weather update: Heavy rainfall lashed parts of Punjab and UT Chandigarh on Wednesday morning, bringing much-needed relief from the humid environment.
However, rainfall disrupted life in several Punjab districts, including Jalandhar and Ludhiana, as streets became flooded. Ludhiana received 11.2 mm of rainfall on Wednesday, causing waterlogging in some areas. Long lines of vehicles were seen in many places following the rain. Within the next 24 hours, the weather is likely to stay cloudy, with the risk of moderate thundershowers in Ludhiana and surrounding areas.
Meanwhile, a few hours of rain on Tuesday evening exacerbated Jalandhar's waterlogging problem, submerging major highways and streets once again. Central Town was worst impacted, with knee-deep water inundating roads and pouring into stores, stranding commuters and visitors for hours.
The IMD has also issued a yellow alert for Punjab along with Delhi-NCR, Rajasthan, Karnataka, Kerala, Telangana, western Madhya Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and northeast India in anticipation of severe rains.
