Tragic accident at Zirakpur's Singhpura lights: 12-year-old girl's head crushed by truck; was on way to school

PTC Web Desk: Ananya, a 12-year-old student of Manav Mangal School in Zirakpur, died in a road accident at Singhpura lights on Tuesday morning. Accompanied by her mother, she was on her way to school on an Activa when their vehicle was hit by a truck. Ananya, a student of Class VII, died on  the spot. Her face and head were crushed beyond recognition.

Ananya, a resident of Preet Colony in Zirakpur, was accompanied by her mother, who also sustained injuries and was admitted to Dera Bassi Hospital.

This unfortunate incident highlights the perilous condition of Singhpura lights in Zirakpur, which have long been a cause for concern due to their dangerous traffic conditions. Critically, the Municipal Corporation (MC) authorities have failed to address the issue and implement measures to alleviate traffic congestion and ensure the safety of commuters at the Singhpura lights. The route is also  used by heavy vehicles.

However, despite repeated accidents and fatalities, the lack of proactive steps by the authorities continues to endanger the lives of commuters, particularly students like Ananya, who are vulnerable while traveling to and from school.
