Suspension on mobile Internet, SMS services further extended in Punjab
Suspense continues on Amritpal's arrest: The Government of Punjab has extended all mobile internet services, all SMS services (except banking & mobile recharge) & all dongle services provided on mobile networks, except the voice call, in the territorial jurisdiction of Punjab suspended till March 20 (12:00 hours) in the interest of public safety.
Meanwhile, as per the statement by Punjab Police officials, a total of 78 persons have been arrested so far, while several others have been detained for questioning. Several activities of Waris Punjab De were intercepted by the Punjab Police on the Shahkot-Malsian Road in Jalandhar district and seven persons were arrested on the spot. Several others, including Amritpal Singh, are on the run and a massive manhunt had been launched to nab them, he added.
During the statewide operation, nine weapons, including one .315 bore rifle, seven rifles of 12 bore, one revolver and 373 live cartridges of different caliber have been recovered so far.
Jalandhar Commissioner Kuldeep Singh Chahal has confirmed that the chief of the pro-Khalistan outfit 'Waris Punjab De' Amritpal Singh has been declared a "fugitive". This development comes shortly after the radical leader was said to be on the run
