Sukhbir Singh Badal completes religious penance, seeks Akal Takht's pardon
PTC News Desk: Shiromani Akali Dal leader Sukhbir Singh Badal reached Sri Akal Takht Sahib after completion of his 10 days religious penance. He was surrounded by heavy security cover as he bowed down before Akal Takht to seek pardon and performed 'ardas' signifying completion of his 'sewa'.
On the second day of his sewa at Golden Temple in Amritsar, Sukhbir Singh Badal had a close shave as a militant approached the wheelchair bound Akali leader and opened fire. Fortunately the attempt was foiled by the security personnel deployed for his security and grabbed the shooter's hands. The bullet instead his the walls of the premises. The shooter was immediately arrested and is currently in the police remand.
The Akal Takht, the highest temporal body of the Sikhs pronounced religious punishment to Sukhbir Singh Badal after declaring him tankhaiya for his involvements in acts against the Pandhic spirit during his tenure. Besides Sukhbir, other Akali leaders including the rebel faction were also ordered religious punishment as they atoned to the religious misconduct during their tenure from 2007 to 2017.
Sukhbir Singh Badal performed 'sewa' at various significant religious sites across Punjab, including Darbar Sahib in Amritsar, Takht Sri Kesgarh Sahib in Anandpur Sahib, Gurdwara Fatehgarh Sahib, Takht Sri Damdama Sahib and Gurdwara Muktsar Sahib.
