Sikh youth from Punjab's Malerkotla Jashandeep Singh murdered in Canada

PTC Web Desk: A 22-year-old Sikh youth, identified as Jashandeep Singh Mann, was allegedly murdered with a sharp-edged weapon in Downtown Edmonton parking, Alberta, on Wednesday. Jashandeep Singh had arrived in Canada as an international student nearly eight months ago.

The Edmonton Police have charged 40-year-old Edgar Whisker with second-degree murder. Reports suggest that the suspect remained at the scene following the incident.


There have been calls from the community, including from Edmonton Police and Mayor Amarjeet Singh Sohi, for the case to be investigated as a potential hate crime. Jashandeep was a native of Badla village in Malerkotla district, Punjab The weapon used in the attack is believed to be a box cutter.

This incident comes amid a rise in anti-Sikh sentiment on social media in Canada, underscoring the need for heightened caution and awareness within the community.
