SGPC halts services of Takht Sri Damdama Sahib Jathedar for two weeks
PTC Web Desk: In a significant decision taken during a meeting of the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) held at Katana Sahib in Samrala, Ludhiana, the services of Giani Harpreet Singh, Jathedar of Takht Sri Damdama Sahib, have been suspended for two weeks. The meeting was presided over by SGPC president Advocate Harjinder Singh Dhami, marking his first session outside Amritsar since assuming office.
The agenda for the meeting was not disclosed beforehand. During the session, it was decided to temporarily suspend Giani Harpreet Singh's services. In his absence, the Head Granthi of Takht Sri Damdama Sahib will carry out the responsibilities of the Jathedar.
Additionally, a three-member committee has been formed to investigate the recent dispute between Giani Harpreet Singh and Visa Singh Valtoha. The committee has been tasked with submitting its report to the SGPC at the earliest.
On October 15, Virsa Singh Valtoha posted a video on social media showing a heated argument and exchange of expletives between him and Giani Harpreet Singh at Sri Akal Takht Sahib. Valtoha claimed the video was only a short clip of a longer recording.
Addressing the controversy, Giani Harpreet Singh alleged that he was being targeted politically and personally due to decisions taken at Sri Akal Takht Sahib on December 2. He stated that selective portions of his statements were clipped and circulated to tarnish his image.
Giani Harpreet Singh said he had submitted his resignation to Sri Akal Takht Sahib two months ago, urging them to accept it. He made it clear that he would not attend any meeting convened by the five Singh Sahibans to reconsider the December 2 decisions.
