SGPC Elections: In a significant move and setting the new plan in motion for elections to the Shiromani Gurudwara Prabandhak Committee (SGPC), Punjab Government rolls out plan including amendments and preparations for upcoming SGPC electoral rolls.
Notably, the five years term of the present members of the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (Board) has since expired and as such to complete the process of election at the earliest, Punjab Government led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann declared that the revision for the upcoming SGPC Electoral polls to commence from October 21.
The announcement of the revision of Shiromani Gurudwara Prabandhak Committee polls was also tweeted by Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann. Taking to his X handle, Mann wrote, “Important information regarding the long awaited Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee elections.. The process of creating new votes and correcting voter lists will start from 21 October 2023.. Rest details soon.” (Translated version of CM Mann’s original Tweet).

Notice by the Deputy Commissioner giving Names & Designations, or in case of officials, designations only, and the addresses, of the revising authorities to whom claims & objections relating to the Roll may be presented – December 5, 2023

Notably, the SGPC’s house comprises of 191 members out of which 170 members are elected by Sikh voters in general elections, 15 are co-opted, five are sitting (jathedars) heads of Sikh temporal seats, and one is the head granthi (priest) of the Golden Temple.
The SGPC's officers, which include the president, senior vice president, junior vice president, general secretary, and 11 members of the executive committee, are elected by the general house for a one-year term.
