SGPC chief Advocate Dhami flays assassination bid on Sukhbir Singh Badal outside Golden Temple

PTC Web Desk: Advocate Harjinder Singh Dhami, president of the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC), has strongly condemned the assassination attempt on Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leader Sukhbir Singh Badal near the sacred precincts of the Golden Temple in Amritsar on Wednesday.

Advocate Dhami described the incident as deeply distressing and unethical, stating that targeting Sukhbir Singh Badal during his religious service as ordained by Sri Akal Takht Sahib is an affront to the sanctity of the revered shrine.

"The violent act is not only a direct attack on the spiritual aura of Sri Harmandir Sahib but also an expression of anti-Panthic mentality and inhuman behaviour," Advocate Dhami said.

The SGPC chief said Sri Akal Takht Sahib had long upheld a tradition of addressing religious transgressions through its edicts, which all Sikhs were duty-bound to follow. He lauded Sukhbir Singh Badal’s commitment to fulfilling his religious obligations and criticised the attack as a grave insult to the authority of Sri Akal Takht Sahib.

“This act undermines the Panthic values and violates the sacred traditions of humility and adherence to religious discipline,” Advocate Dhami said.

The SGPC president also expressed concern over the law and order situation in Punjab, calling the incident a glaring example of administrative negligence. He questioned the Punjab Government and the police for their alleged failure to ensure security at such a holy site and urged them to take responsibility for protecting all Akali leaders engaged in religious service.

Advocate Dhami also appealed to the police to ensure strict measures to prevent such incidents in the future, especially during the observance of religious rituals and duties.
