PTC Web Desk: Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) president Advocate Harjinder Singh Dhami has strongly condemned an incident at Kendriya Vidyalaya, Payyanur, Kerala, where students reportedly mimicked Sahibzadas Baba Zorawar Singh and Baba Fateh Singh during a programme under the Central Government's Veer Bal Diwas initiative.

Advocate Harjinder Singh Dhami termed the act of physically replicating the Sahibzadas on their martyrdom anniversary as highly objectionable and contrary to Sikh principles. He criticised the school administration for conducting such a performance and sharing its visuals on social media, which he said deeply hurt the sentiments of the Sikh community.

Though the school has since removed the controversial images from its social media handles following the SGPC’s protest, Advocate Dhami urged the Central Government to take strict measures to prevent such incidents in the future.

The SGPC president also appealed to the Ministry of Education, Ministry of Culture, Ministry of Women and Child Development, and the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) to ensure that schools and educational institutions across the country follow Sikh principles and historical context while organising events marking the martyrdom of Sahibzadas.

Addressing Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Advocate Dhami reiterated the Sikh community's disapproval of naming the martyrdom day as 'Veer Bal Diwas'. He called for the recognition of 'Sahibzade Shaheedi Diwas', a title recommended by the SGPC and other Sikh organisations, through an official gazette notification.

Advocate Dhami said Sahibzadas’ unparalleled sacrifices at a tender age were revered with utmost respect in Sikh traditions. He urged the government to uphold this sanctity in all future commemorations.a
