SC orders immediate hospitalisation of Dallewal as Punjab govt submits farmer leader's blood report

PTC Web Desk: As directed, the Punjab Government on Friday submitted the blood report of jagjit Singh Dallewal to the Supreme Court, following which the apex court directed the authorities to admit Dallewal to a hospital. The Supreme Court specifically instructed that Dallewal be admitted to the temporary hospital set up for his treatment.

The Supreme Court also ordered that an affidavit be filed stating that Dallewal will be admitted to the hospital. The affidavit will be submitted by Punjab’s Director General of Police (DGP) and the Chief Secretary. Additionally, the Advocate General (AG) revealed that 20 blood tests of Dallewal have been conducted.

Ahead of the Supreme Court hearing, the Punjab Government had set up a medical team consisting of four doctors from Rajindra Hospital, Patiala. On Thursday, this team visited the Khanauri border protest site to collect blood samples and perform an ECG on Jagjit Singh Dallewal. The reports were presented to the Supreme Court today.

On December 18, the Punjab Government told the apex court that Dallewal’s health was stable. However, the Supreme Court raised concerns about the lack of proper medical evaluation, questioning how Dallewal, a 70-year-old man on hunger strike for 24 days, could be declared healthy without basic tests such as blood work and ECG. “How can a 70-year-old man, on hunger strike for 24 days, be declared healthy without proper medical evaluation?” the Bench asked.

Earlier, on December 17, the Punjab Government recommended that Dallewal be hospitalised due to health concerns. The Supreme Court emphasised that the state must handle the situation carefully, acknowledging the emotional connection farmers have with Dallewal and his significance to the farmer community. The court also stated that if farmers want to address their concerns directly, they are welcome to approach the court or send representatives.
