SAD stages statewide protests over 'farmers' exploitation', DAP fertiliser shortage in Punjab

PTC Web Desk: The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) on Monday staged a protest at Deputy Commissioner (DC) offices across Punjab, raising issues of alleged exploitation of farmers during paddy procurement and  shortage and black marketing of DAP fertiliser. During the demonstrations, SAD leaders flayed both Punjab and central governments, accusing them of irresponsibility and neglect.

In Amritsar, former Cabinet Minister Gulzar Singh Ranike led party workers in a protest outside the Deputy Commissioner's office. Addressing the gathering, Ranike alleged that farmers in Punjab were facing a severe crisis exacerbated by government policies. He said tasks that should have been completed two months ago were neglected, leading to the current struggles of the farming community.

Ranike further alleged irregularities in paddy procurement and highlighted the distress caused by the shortage and the sale of DAP fertiliser on black market. He accused the government of oppressing farmers and demanded immediate action to address these pressing concerns.

Meanwhile, in Mohali’s Dera Bassi, AAP MLA Kuljeet Singh made an unexpected visit to the ongoing protest. Engaging with SAD leaders and farmers, he expressed support for their demands, assuring that solutions are being worked on and will be resolved soon.

Across Punjab, similar demonstrations were led by SAD’s acting president, Balwinder Singh Bhunder, highlighting farmers' demands. SAD leaders warned that if the government fails to resolve these issues promptly, they will intensity their protests.
