SAD flags irregularities in SGPC voter list, seeks extension for fresh registrations

PTC Web Desk: Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) members have raised concerns over large-scale bogus voter registrations and incomplete voter lists for the Shiromani committee elections. They have called for an extension of the registration period to ensure transparency and fairness.

A meeting chaired by Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) working president Balwinder Singh Bhundar and party leader Sukhbir Singh Badal was held at the SAD headquarters, with SGPC president Advocate Harjinder Singh Dhami in attendance.

During the meeting, members highlighted significant manipulation in the voter lists, including the inclusion of non-Sikh people and en-bloc additions from assembly constituency voter rolls.

Sukhbir Singh Badal announced that a party delegation would meet Chief Gurdwara Elections Commissioner Surinder Singh Saron to submit complaints and request action. “The AAP government is inflating voter lists by registering ineligible voters, including individuals from other religions, to rig the elections,” he alleged.

Senior SAD leader Daljit Singh Cheema emphasised the need for a thorough scrutiny of voter lists. He stated, “We will appeal for an extension of the voter registration period, as many eligible voters have been left out. Evidence of en-mass registration of ineligible voters will also be presented to the Gurdwara Elections Office.”

Cheema added that party leaders would work with sub-divisional magistrates to demand the removal of all ineligible voters.

The meeting concluded with a pledge from SGPC members to safeguard the committee from anti-Panthic forces and ensure a decisive victory for the SAD in the upcoming elections.
