Amritsar, September 4:  In a disturbing incident, a resident doctor at Guru Nanak Hospital in Amritsar was allegedly harassed by two men on a motorcycle while returning to her room after duty. The doctor, who was alone at the time, managed to escape the situation and sought refuge in her ward.

After informing her colleagues, the incident was immediately reported to the medical college principal, who subsequently filed a formal complaint with the police. Acting swiftly, the police registered a case late at night and began a search operation. The authorities are currently examining CCTV footage from the area to identify the perpetrators.

The resident doctor, understandably shaken by the incident, is receiving support from her colleagues.

This incident has raised serious concerns about the safety of medical professionals, especially following a recent directive from the Punjab Government. The directive, issued after the tragic murder of a resident doctor in Kolkata, mandated that any harassment case involving resident doctors must be registered by the police within six hours. Despite this, the occurrence of such incidents underscores the ongoing challenges in ensuring the safety and security of healthcare workers.
