Rain lashes Punjab, Chandigarh; more rain and fog warnings issued as western disturbance approaches

PTC Web Desk: Rain lashed Punjab and UT Chandigarh since Monday morning. After a spell of cold wave, fog has now become a concern for Punjab residents, with the Meteorological Department issuing a yellow alert for fog until December 25. Starting December 26 night, a western disturbance is expected to intensify weather activity in the region.

According to the latest reports from the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Pathankot recorded a minimum temperature of 3°C, while Chandigarh saw a slight rise in temperature, hovering around 7°C.

In the Majha region, light drizzle was observed this morning, with Amritsar experiencing brief rainfall followed by overcast skies. The cloud cover provided temporary relief from the biting cold due to the heat lock effect.

The yellow alert for fog covers five districts: Amritsar, Tarn Taran, Ludhiana, Barnala, and Bathinda, where visibility is expected to be severely affected, particularly in open areas. Despite the fog, sunny intervals are anticipated in the afternoon, with temperatures remaining close to normal.

A cyclonic circulation has become active over Punjab due to a western disturbance. Additionally, another cyclonic system is active along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border, raising the likelihood of light rain across Punjab, Chandigarh, and Haryana's plains entire day on Monday.

From December 26 night onwards, a stronger western disturbance will bring scattered rain in some areas on December 26, followed by widespread rainfall across Punjab on December 27.
