Rain expected in Punjab on Holi; IMD issues yellow alert for 10 districts
PTC Web Desk: Punjab is likely to witness rain on Holi as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for 10 districts. The change in weather conditions is attributed to the western disturbance that became active on March 9. Despite a rise in temperatures due to continuous sunshine in recent days, the current temperature is reported to be 4.2°C above normal, though no major fluctuation has been observed in the last 24 hours.
According to the Meteorological Centre, the yellow alert has been issued for Pathankot, Gurdaspur, Amritsar, Hoshiarpur, Kapurthala, Jalandhar, Nawanshahr, Rupnagar, SAS Nagar, and Fatehgarh Sahib. These districts are expected to experience heavy rainfall and thunderstorms today, which could lead to a drop in temperature.
The western disturbance that became active on March 9 initially affected the hilly regions but has now started impacting Punjab. As a result, the IMD has issued a rain and storm warning across the state, which is expected to persist until March 16. During this period, Punjab's temperature is anticipated to drop by 2-3°C, providing some relief from the rising heat.
