Punjab Winter Session: 2-day winter session of Punjab Vidhan Sabha begins today, stormy debates expected
Punjab Winter Session: The two-day Winter Session of the Punjab Vidhan Sabha begins today, marking the fifth session of the current Vidhan Sabha.
Ahead of the discussions in Punjab Winter Session, opposition Congress questions its short duration.
The Punjab Government will have discussions on three major agendas which includes the presentation of three crucial Bills in the Vidhan Sabha: the Punjab Fiscal Responsibility and Budget Management (Amendment) Bill, 2023; The Punjab Goods and Services Tax (Amendment) Bill, 2023; and the Indian Stamp (Punjab Amendment) Bill, 2023.
While, the assembly has been conveyed by Chief Minister of Punjab Bhagwant Mann to discuss the legislative work, the opposition parties raised concerns about debt, the Sultanpur Lodhi clash, law and order, illegal mining, and state-to-state disputes and all geared up to attack the ruling government party.
Meanwhile, taking to his X handle (former Twitter), Congress leader Pargat Singh wrote that the issue of SYL, farmers, teachers and professors will be taken up in the assembly session starting today.
“Being the voice of the youth, I will put thousands of messages and tweets sent by them before the government. Hope to solve the issues of long struggling teachers/professors @BhagwantMann,” he added.
— Pargat Singh (@PargatSOfficial) November 28, 2023
Earlier, Punjab Finance Minister Harpal Cheema highlighted that the Council of Ministers also sanctioned the creation of nine new positions within Maharaja Ranjit Singh Sports University. Additionally, during the Cabinet meeting, discussions revolved around the cases of five prisoners who exhibited commendable behaviour and were nearing the completion of their terms.
The session will begin at 2 pm today. If reports were to be believed, sugarcane price hike may also be announced in the session.
