Punjab weather update: Thick fog envelopes major cities, traffic disrupted
Chandigarh, December 20: With Dense fog covering entire north India, chilly mornings forced people to slow down in Punjab. According to the Meteorological Department, there is no chance of rain for next five days. With this indication, it is clear that people with have to face thick blanket of fog incoming days as well.
Meanwhile, visibility in Ludhiana, Patiala, Amritsar, Faridkot and some other places was 0 to 40 meters. Visibility remained zero on highways and plains.

In Bathinda, even in the morning, people had to go on the roads with the headlights of their vehicles on. The Meteorological Department has issued a cold wave alert in some states for the next few days. Cold wave alert has been issued in Himachal Pradesh, Haryana, Punjab and Rajasthan.
The Indian Meteorological Department predicted heavy to very heavy fog conditions for Punjab, Haryana Chandigarh, Delhi and Uttar Pradesh early Tuesday morning, and forecasted it to improve gradually.
While dense fog enveloped the nation this morning, low visibility was also reported from Lodhi Road, Safdarjung, Airport flyover and AIIMS. According to IMD, fog-induced very low visibility was reported on Tuesday till 5:30 am from Bathinda (00), Amritsar, Ganganagar, Patiala, Delhi (Palam) and Lucknow (25), and Purnea (50m), Ambala and Agra (200m), Gorakhpur (300m), Bareilly, Patna, Gaya and Kolkata (500m).
In Uttar Pradesh, dense Fog engulfed Kanpur this morning also. People were seen warming up near bonfires. IMD forecasted 'Very dense Fog' for kanpur for Tuesday with the minimum temperatures being 7 degrees Celsius.
According to SAFAR, the overall Air Quality Index (AQI) in National Capital on Tuesday morning was 378, which is in the 'very poor' category.
Meanwhile, at least one person was reported dead and 10 injured after the bus they were riding in collided with a container truck in Dangkaur district due to fog on Tuesday morning. The bus carried 60 passengers. The injured were taken to hospital, Gautam Buddha Nagar police said.
