Punjab Weather update: Punjab is likely to witness extremely heavy rains. According to the India Meteorological Department, monsoon rainfall in most parts of the country in September is expected to be 'above normal', similar to the August trend.

The weather department stated Saturday that states including Uttarakhand, Rajasthan, and parts of Himachal Pradesh and Punjab should anticipate extremely heavy rainfall, which could lead to floods and landslides.

Meanwhile, Monsoon has stayed in the red since its arrival in Punjab this year. However, it climbed slightly above normal in August, while the state's seasonal shortage remains at 24%. With the weather agency anticipating above-average rainfall in many locations during September, the total shortage is expected to decrease even further.

August's rainfall was 7 percent above average. Punjab experienced 156.6 mm of rain from August 1 to August 31, compared to the long-term average of 146.2 mm for this time, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).

Tarn Taran had the most rainfall excess for the month, with 194%, followed by Faridkot with 90%, Patiala with 35%, and Amritsar with 32%. Hoshiarpur, on the other hand, was the most severely affected district, with a 46% deficit, followed by Mansa (35%), and SAS Nagar (32%).
