PTC Web Desk:  The Punjab Police have claimed to have cracked Gurpreet Singh Hari Nau murder case in Faridkot with the arrest of three persons.

During a press conference held in Chandigarh, Punjab DGP Gaurav Yadav said Khadoor Sahib MP Amritpal Singh, currently lodged in Dibrugarh Jail, might be involved in the case. The police investigation also identified Arshdeep Singh Dalla, a known terrorist, as the mastermind behind the conspiracy.

DGP Gaurav Yadav said the entire investigation was being conducted based on factual evidence. He said multiple groups were formed to execute the murder, each assigned specific tasks. While Amritpal Singh is currently in custody, the police have not ruled out the possibility of interrogating him further, given the evidence they have gathered.

The deceased, Gurpreet Singh Hari Nau, was known to be associated with 'Waris Punjab De' and served as the cashier when the group was led by the late Deep Sidhu. However, conflicts reportedly arose between Gurpreet Singh Hari Nau and Amritpal singh after the latter took over the organisation’s leadership. It is believed that these differences might have played a role in the eventual attack on Gurpreet.

Gurpreet Singh was murdered on October 9 while returning home after campaigning in support of a sarpanch candidate. As he was travelling, assailants on a motorbike intercepted and shot him multiple times. The attackers fled the scene immediately after the shooting. Gurpreet sustained four bullet injuries and was rushed to Guru Gobind Singh Medical College in critical condition, where he was declared dead by the doctors. An SIT (Special Investigation Team) was formed to investigate the case.

The police have arrested three suspects identified as Bilal Ahmed alias Fauji, Gurdeep Singh alias Pontu, and Arshdeep Singh alias Jhanda. They were reportedly part of the reconnaissance team that conducted surveillance on Gurpreet Singh’s movements prior to the attack. The reconnaissance activities were reportedly directed by Karmveer Singh alias Gora, who is based in Canada.

The reconnaissance team relayed crucial information to the shooters’ group through their handlers, which ultimately led to the attack on Gurpreet. The DGP said the identities of the shooters had been confirmed, and police teams were actively conducting raids to apprehend them.

The investigation involved detailed analysis of CCTV footage spanning a 125-km radius around the crime scene. This effort helped track the movements of the suspects before and after the attack. Additionally, mobile tower data was analysed extensively to trace the activities of persons involved and establish contact links with foreign-based handlers.

The probe also unearthed links between the suspects and individuals based abroad. The police have been in contact with various foreign entities as part of the investigation. These international connections are believed to have played a role in planning and executing the murder.
