Punjab's tableau at 76th Republic Day projects state as land of knowledge and wisdom
PTC News Desk: The Republic Day tableau of Punjab showcased the state as epitome of wisdom and knowledge displaying the exquisite handicrafts and rich musical heritage of the region.
The display was a beautiful fusion of the state's skill in inlay design, complemented by intricately woven handicrafts. It also featured a portrayal of the highly respected Sufi saint, Baba Sheikh Faridji, in the trailer section.
Punjab primarily being an agrarian state, the tableau displayed a pair of bullocks with a yoke, depicting the agricultural aspect of the state.
The graceful patterns of the mats ("durri") at the base added a touch of sophistication to the innovative creation. The tableau also highlighted the state's rich musical tradition, featuring a man in traditional attire holding a "toombi" alongside a "dholak" and beautifully adorned earthen pots ("ghara").
The trailer section of the tableau portrayed one of Punjab's most venerated Sufi saints, Baba Sheikh Farid, also known as "Ganj-i-Shakkar" (the storehouse of sweetness), sitting beneath a tree, absorbed in composing hymns that are now part of the Guru Granth Sahib.
Baba Sheikh Farid was the first poet to cultivate and elevate the Punjabi language, establishing it in the literary world. His teachings focused on the importance of moral conduct, devotion to God, and the virtues of humility, contentment, generosity, and compassion.
