Punjab stubble burning count crosses 10,000-mark; air quality remains 'poor'
PTC News Desk: With air pollution choking residents, the total number of stubble-burning instances in Punjab this season surpassed 10,000. Meanwhile, on Thursday, the AQI in Punjab recorded 238, placing it in the poor category.
On Wednesday, the state reported 179 cases of stubble burning, bringing the total to 10,104. Sangruru and Ferozepur recorded 26 cases each on Wednesday, followed by Muktsar (20), Tarn Taran (15), Faridkot (14), and Fazilka (10).
On Wednesday, five Punjab cities' air quality indexes were classified as poor. Among these, Amritsar and Jalandhar had the highest AQI of 251. The AQI for Ludhiana was 246, Mandi Gobindgarh's was 243, and Patiala's was 214. Meanwhile, Bathinda's AQI was 122, Khanna's was 148, and Rupnagar's was 115, all remaining in the yellow zone.
Children and those with respiratory illnesses, such as asthma, are advised to remain at home, while others should limit their outdoor activity.
