Punjab: Buses to remain off roads across state tomorrow
PTC Web Desk: In a significant development, employees of Punjab Roadways, PUNBUS, and PRTC have announced a state-wide bus strike on April 24, protesting against the partial disbursement of their salaries and long-standing financial neglect by the government.
According to sources, the transport employee unions have expressed strong dissatisfaction over receiving only half of their salaries, blaming both the department and the Punjab Government for their financial struggles. The employees said the delay was particularly concerning at a time when they needed funds for their children’s school admissions, fee payments, and purchasing wheat for the year.
Reportedly, the government has failed to release approximately Rs 600 crore in dues, leading to severe salary distribution challenges. Employees say funds have not been allocated for the last six months.
The employees said a recent meeting with Punjab Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema had raised hopes for a resolution, as the release of funds was discussed. However, no action had been taken so far.
