Punjab police seizes 77 kg heroin in biggest drug haul of 2023, 4 smugglers arrested
Chandigarh, August 6: In a significant development, the Punjab Police announced the largest drug bust of 2023, confiscating a total of 77 kilograms of heroin from four individuals allegedly involved in a trans-border drug smuggling network.
The successful operation was carried out by the Counter Intelligence Wing, Ferozepur, in two separate raids, as revealed by Punjab Director General of Police, Gaurav Yadav.
Additionally, the police also seized three pistols from the arrested smugglers during the operations.
DGP Yadav took to Twitter to share the news, stating, "One of the biggest heroin seizures of 2023: In two separate intelligence-led operations, Counter Intelligence, #Ferozepur has apprehended 4 drug traffickers and recovered 77Kg heroin (41Kg 36Kg) and 3 pistols."

The apprehended criminals were actively involved in large-scale trans-border and inter-state drug smuggling activities within Punjab, according to the DGP.

As part of the ongoing investigation, cases under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act have been registered at Fazilka in connection with the seizures. Authorities are conducting further investigations to uncover the full extent of the drug smuggling network and bring those responsible to justice.
