Punjab Police detain 7 ahead of 'Chetna March' in support of Amritpal Singh
Punjab: In a major breakthrough against supporters of chief of the 'Waris Punjab De' outfit Amritpal Singh, Punjab Police detained around seven people ahead of the 'Chetna March' planned in support of Amritpal Singh.
As per the plan, the supporters of Amritpal Singh were going to Bathinda to participate in the ‘Chetna March’ in support of Amritpal Singh and his associates, currently lodged in Dibrugarh Jail in Assam under the National Security Act (NSA).

As per the statement by Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) Bathinda Range, Surinder Pal Singh Parmar, “Around 5-7 people who were going to participate in the 'Chetna' march in support of Amritpal lodged in Dibrugarh jail have been detained. Wherever we anticipate a law and order situation and we have the provision to detain, preventive action is carried out. These are just preventive measures, any civilian who wants to come and visit the 'Akal Takht' is welcome."
The march, starting from Takht Damdama Sahib, Talwandi Sabo in Bathinda, and concluding at Akal Takht Sahib in Amritsar is scheduled for Tuesday. However, due to the nationwide enforcement of the election code of conduct for the Lok Sabha Elections, the participants were detained preventively.

Amritpal Singh, who was arrested in April last year, had the stringent National Security Act (NSA) invoked against him. He, along with nine associates, is currently incarcerated in Dibrugarh jail in Assam.
Last month, the government extended the NSA against Amritpal and his nine associates.
