Punjab police conduct search operation at railway stations ahead of festive season; 8 detained

PTC News Desk: With festival season approaching, Punjab Police conducted a special cordon and search operation (CASO) on Saturday at and around all railway stations, markets, and other busy locations across the state.

Arpit Shukla, Special Director General of Police (Special DGP) Law and Order, stated that police teams detained eight people for questioning and arrested two people during the operation.

During the operation, police officers checked 10,898 two-wheelers, of which 42 were impounded and 699 were issued challans.

The CASO, which was ordered by DGP Gaurav Yadav, was carried out from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. in all 28 police districts, and involved police teams frisking people arriving and departing from railway stations with the help of sniffer dogs. Later in the evening, from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m., police teams checked two-wheelers.

Shukla, who was personally monitoring this state-level operation, stated that all CPs/SSPs were asked to deploy the maximum number of police teams in their respective jurisdictions under the supervision of DSP/SP-rank officers to ensure the operation's success.

He had also strictly instructed all police personnel to handle everyone in a friendly and polite manner while frisking them during the operation.

According to the special DGP, around 506 police teams involving over 5,000 police personnel were deputed across the state to look for suspicious persons at various railway stations, markets, and other crowded areas, while causing the least amount of inconvenience to them. Over 5,584 people were checked during the operation, which took place at over 130 railway stations and other locations throughout the state, he added.
