Punjab police arrests one accused in 'Waris Punjab De' leaked chats case
PTC News Desk: The Punjab police have arrested one accused in connection with the leaked chats a group allegedly named 'Waris Punjab de' organization. In a joint operation, Khanna and Moga police have arrested the accused identified as Balkar Singh.
The plans were uncovered through leaked screenshots of a WhatsApp group chat allegedly supporting MP Amritpal Singh, currently lodged in a jail in Dibrugarh, Assam.
The FIR was registered at the Cyber Crime police station in Moga under the IPC, the UAPA and the IT Act, including Sections 61(2)(a), 113(3), 152 and 353 of the BNS, 13 and 18 of the UAPA and 66F and 67 of the IT Act.
According to the reports, the group comprises of more than 600 members who were planning an alleged assassination bid targetting top leaders including Union Home Minister Amit Shah, MoS Ravneet Singh Bittu and senior SAD leader Bikram Singh Majithia.
Earlier, senior Shiromani Akali Dal leader (SAD) leader Bikram Singh Majithia on Monday held a press conference at the party headquarters in Chandigarh, where he made a series of sensational revelations regarding a viral chat linked to Amritpal Singh, the MP from Khadoor Sahib. During the press briefing, Bikram Singh Majithia disclosed that the admin of the controversial group chat is Mahaan Singh, the brother of Kulwant Singh. It is worth noting that Kulwant Singh has recently been transferred from Dibrugarh Jail to Punjab.
Targeting the MP, Majithia said Amritpal Singh was linked to gangsters abroad and had ties to Pakistan's intelligence agency ISI. He remarked, “Someone who couldn't help his own brother overcome drug addiction – how can he guide the youth out of it?”
