Punjab Panchayat Elections 2024: Key Updates So Far In Points

Punjab Panchayat Elections 2024: Voting for the Punjab Panchayat elections 2024 is underway, with 28% turnout recorded by 12 pm. The state has a total of 13,937 gram panchayats. The elections are being conducted using ballot papers instead of EVMs, and voters have the option of choosing NOTA (None of the Above).

Key updates from the elections so far


Supreme Court Decision: The Supreme Court refused to intervene in the ongoing Punjab Panchayat elections. The court declined to stay the elections, stating that halting the process is a serious matter.

Death of Police Official in Barnala: A police officer on election duty in Barnala, identified as senior constable Lakhha Singh (53), passed away.

Clashes in Jagraon: Voting in Kothe Athchak village, Jagraon, was halted due to a dispute among voters. Additionally, elections were canceled in Pona and Dalla villages in Jagraon.

Teacher's Death in Jalandhar: A teacher from Fazilka, deployed for election duty in Jalandhar, died under mysterious circumstances on Monday evening.

Voting Halted in Mansa Khurd: In Mansa Khurd village, voting was stopped due to a misprinted ballot paper. The issue was immediately brought to the attention of higher officials.

Shooting Incident in Tarn Taran: A shooting occurred outside a polling booth at Sohal Sain village, Tarn Taran, resulting in one person being injured following a dispute among people standing in line to vote.

Voting is scheduled to continue until 4 pm, with the results expected to be declared later in the evening.
