Know all about Punjab MPs oath ceremony

Twelve out of the 13 MPs from Punjab took their oath as members of the 18th Lok Sabha in Punjabi this time. All the MPs from all parties — Congress, Shiromani Akali Dal, BJP and Aam Aadmi Party — preferred to take oath in the state language.

With fourth consecutive win, Harsimrat Kaur Badal is Shiromani Akali Dal’s lone saviour.

During the session, the Speaker announced the name of Amritpal Singh, but he did not appear. Consequently, Charanjit Singh Channi's name was called next.

The newly-elected members of Lok Sabha are set to solemnise their commitments to serve their constituencies and the nation.  Following the swearing-in of the MPs, the next significant step is the election of the new Lok Sabha Speaker, a pivotal position in the functioning of India's lower house of Parliament.

Why Amritpal Singh was not present at oath ceremony?

Among the list of newly elected Lok Sabha members from Punjab include the name of  jailed ‘Waris Punjab De’ head Amritapl Singh who won from Khadoor Sahib seat by defeating Congress' Kulbir Singh Zira.

Noting that the National Security Act (NSA) detention of Waris Punjab De head and newly elected MP from Khadoor Sahib Amritpal Singh and nine of his associates has been extended by one year,  it is evident that Amritpal Singh was not able to take oath today.

The first session of the 18th Lok Sabha held from June 24 and to conclude on July 3 for oath/affirmation of newly elected Members. The 264th Session of Rajya Sabha will also commence on June 27 and conclude on July 3.
