Punjab’s most expensive Ladowal toll plaza reopens amid long-standing protests by farmers

Ladowal toll plaza reopens: Punjab’s most expensive Ladowal toll plaza resumed operations today under the heavy police security following the orders from Punjab and Haryana High Court. 

The decision comes amid ongoing protests by local farmers, who are demanding a reduction in what they consider to be the highest toll rates in Punjab and have been protesting since June 16. 

Meanwhile, Punjab Police detained several farmers led by President Dilbag Singh Gill and Inderbir Singh Qadian. 

Over the past 46 days, the toll closure saved people more than Rs 46 crore.

Farmers are demanding a reduction in toll prices, which have increased three times in a year. Following the toll's suspension, the NHAI filed a case in the High Court, which has now ordered the Punjab government to resume toll collection.

Farmers' Appeal to the Public

On Tuesday, farmers called on the public to gather at the Ladowal toll plaza and expressed their dissatisfaction with the Punjab and Haryana High Court decision to resume toll collection. 

Farmers further claimed that the court's verdict was against their interests and their side was not adequately heard.

• Old Rates: Single Journey: Rs 730 ; Multiple Journeys: Rs 1,095 ; Monthly Pass: Rs 24,285
• New Rates: Single Journey: Rs 745 ; Multiple Journeys: Rs 1,120; Monthly Pass: Rs 24,905
