Punjab's most expensive Ladhowal toll plaza closed indefinitely amid workers' protest
PTC Web Desk: Punjab's most expensive toll plaza has once again been shut down for an indefinite period amid a protest by workers. This toll plaza, which sees over 70,000 vehicles passing through daily, generates around Rs 70 lakh in revenue each day. However, starting from this morning, it has been closed, and no toll will be charged to vehicles passing through.
The decision was made during a meeting of the Toll Plaza Workers' Union Punjab, chaired by state president Darshan Singh Laddi. He said workers' demands had been ignored for a long time, which had led to this closure.
In a statement earlier, Darshan Singh said despite multiple meetings with company officials over the past few months, their demands were yet to be met. The company had shown no willingness to address the concerns. As a result, the Toll Plaza Workers' Union Punjab announced that the Ladhowal toll plaza would be shut down indefinitely starting September 27, with no toll being collected from any vehicle, he added.
Darshan Singh Laddi said toll plaza workers were not being extended any benefits. Employees were not granted government holidays, and no contributions were made to their Provident Fund (PF). He alleged that the company had failed to provide employees with Employee State Insurance (ESI) and welfare schemes, which was a violation of workers' rights.
