Punjab: Met issues yellow alert for rain in 15 districts of state
PTC Web Desk: In what may add to worries of farmers, the Meteorological Department has issued yellow alert for rain in 15 districts of Punjab: Pathankot, Gurdaspur, Amritsar, Tarn Taran, Kapurthala , Jalandhar , Fezorepur , Fazilka, Faridkot , Muktsar, Moga, Bathinda, Ludhiana, Barnala and Mansa.
What is yellow alert?
Yellow indicates that authorities should be aware. In such a situation one can expect severely bad weather. It also suggests that the weather could change for the worse, disrupting day-to-day activities.

Punjab farmers are at receiving end
Untimely rains couple with winds and hailstorms have added to worries of farmers in the wheat-growing state of Punjab. They are staring at huge losses as their standing wheat crop has damaged just before the harvest.
On Wednesday, the Meteorological Department issued a fresh warning to farmers in Punjab, predicting a fresh spell of rain.
GIS for girdawari
Since the exercise of girdawari is underway in Punjab, the Revenue Department has reportedly directed officials to use geographic information system (GIS)-based technology to conduct the girdawari of fields. It would ensure that officials go to the fields for the assessment of crop loss and do not indulge in the practice of making reports without proper verification.
